We've been taking it in turns with a few friends to host dinner, and we've been cooking and enjoying the most delicious meals. When it was our friend Ili's turn, she mentioned somewhat anxiously that she felt under a lot of pressure from our group. However, Ili – a native Italian – well and truly spoilt us with an apericena that put the rest of us to shame. She kicked things off with these wonderful ham crostini, for which she used mortadella. We all felt like we were in a bar in Milan. Meraviglioso!!

Toast the baguette a little in the oven as desired, cut into slices, brush with oil. Top with the ham. Halve the burrata, scoop out the inside with a fork, crush gently (stracciatella, see note), place on top of the ham. Top with the pistachios, crema di balsamico and pepper.

Good to know
Note: Instead of using just the inside of the burrata (stracciatella di burrata), you can also use the entire burrata and crush it with a fork or use the remainder for a salad.
