Glögg

7dl red wine (dry)
½dl cognac or vodka
150g cane sugar
1 organic orange, zest peeled with a peeler
2cm ginger, sliced
1 cinnamon stick
6 cardamom pods, crushed
5 cloves
50g raisins
50g almond slivers

To serve

1 organic orange, sliced

How it's done

Glögg

Pour the wine into a pan and add all the other ingredients up to and including the cloves. Place the raisins and almonds in a small muslin cloth, tie up the cloth with a piece of kitchen twine, add to the wine. Cover and bring to just below the boil, turn off the heat and (without removing the lid) leave to infuse for approx. 2 hrs.

To serve

Remove the muslin parcel. Strain the mulled wine and return to the pan. Transfer the raisins and almonds from the muslin to the pan, heat the wine once more, serve hot with the orange slices.

Good to know
Note: In nordic countries the often use vodka or aquavit instead of cognac. It depends on one's liking what kind of alcohol one uses.
