Breakfast is her most important meal of the day and eggs, butter and a large amount of fresh vegetables are always in her fridge. Baking is Irina's great passion. Even though I enjoy cooking savoury dishes, sweet baked creations are at the heart of her blog.

Inspiration often strikes spontaneously when I open the fridge and see what needs using up. I love turning simple ingredients into something hearty and comforting.

After leaving IT consulting and during parental leave, Irina finally wanted to learn how to cook. She started sharing her very first recipes on Instagram – and that's how it all began. Her favourite meal is warm sourdough bread and her most important ingredient is time.

What was your favourite food as a child?

My grandmother's hand pies (little pastry pockets) and pancakes – an endless love.

Who do you most enjoy cooking for?

I love entertaining my friends – the more, the better.

How do your culinary creations come about?

Inspiration often strikes spontaneously when I open the fridge and see what needs using up. I love turning simple ingredients into something hearty and comforting.

What dish or ingredient have you recently discovered?

Lately, I've been especially enjoying beetroot in salads, particularly in combination with feta and seeds.

Why did you start blogging?

After years in the IT industry, my maternity leave gave me something I hadn't had for a long time – time at home. I began experimenting and baking, learning everything from scratch and sharing my experiences online. What began as a new hobby gradually developed into my favourite full-time job.

White wine, red wine or beer?

Prosecco.

Do you have a secret ingredient that gives your dishes that special something?

Time, especially with yeast dough. Letting it rise slowly makes all the difference. And for flavour: Garlic for savoury dishes, and a pinch of saffron in sweet doughs.

I love being part of the Swiss food blogging community. It’s small and friendly, and over the years some of my colleagues have become friends. I’m particularly inspired by creators who focus on seasonal ingredients, beautiful baked goods and honest, home-style cooking.
