Total: 1 hr 10 min. | Active: 45 min.

Bifteki with tzatziki is a celebrated dish in Greek cuisine, prized for its simplicity and Mediterranean flavours. The soft and flavourful patties are traditionally prepared on the grill or in the oven, which gives them a rustic and authentic taste. They are served with tzatziki, a fresh and creamy sauce made with Greek yoghurt, cucumber and garlic, which adds a wonderfully fresh touch to the dish. Accompanied by pita bread or a salad, this dish is the epitome of Greek food culture – sociable, authentic and full of flavour. A journey through the flavours of the Aegean.

How it's done

Tzatziki

Mix the cucumber and salt in a sieve, leave to absorb for approx. 10 mins. Squeeze the cucumber well to press out the liquid, mix with the yoghurt and all the other ingredients up to and including the dill, chill.

Bread

Place the bread in a bowl, cover with the milk and leave to soak for approx. 15 mins. Squeeze out the bread by hand, set aside.

Bifteki

Place the mince in a bowl along with all the other ingredients up to and including the vinegar, add the reserved bread, season. Knead the mixture thoroughly by hand until you have a compact, sticky mass.

To shape

Divide the mixture into 8 portions, shape into ovals, flatten a little.

Heat the oil in a non-stick frying pan. Add the bifteki, fry for approx. 4 mins. on each side. Remove, serve with the tzatziki.
