French toast bagels with apple sauce – a breakfast delight! Crispy bagel slices, fried until golden brown and served with apple sauce and yoghurt. A simple yet delicious dish that is guaranteed to lift spirits in the morning.

Ingredients

for 4 portions

Bagels
eggs
3 dl milk
1 tsp vanilla sugar
1 pinch salt
freshly baked bagels, cut open
To fry
  clarified butter for baking
80 g sugar
1 ½ tsp cinnamon
180 g plain yoghurt
100 g apple sauce
50 g almonds, coarsely chopped

How it's done

Bagels

Beat the eggs, milk, vanilla sugar and salt in a wide dish. Place the bagels in the liquid, leave to soak for approx. 10 mins. Turn the bagels and soak for a further 10 mins.

To fry

Heat a little clarified butter in a non-stick frying pan. Reduce the heat, fry the bagels in batches for approx. 2 mins. on each side until golden brown. Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a deep dish, toss the hot bagels in the sugary mixture. Serve the bagels with yoghurt and apple sauce, sprinkle with almonds.
