Christmas pears
Ingredients
for 4 person
4 dl | red wine (e.g. Amarone) |
100 g | cane sugar |
2 | star anise |
3 | cardamom pods |
4 | pears, (e.g. Williams) |
How it's done
Bring the wine, sugar, star anise and cardamom to the boil in a small pan.
Peel the pears, leave the stems intact, cut in half and remove the cores. Add the pears to the wine, simmer gently over a low heat for approx. 25 mins., turning the pears occasionally. Allow the pears to cool in the wine, cover and chill for approx. 6 hrs. Remove the pears from the wine and set aside. Reduce the wine to approx. 150 ml, allow to cool, serve with the pears.
