Sue and Sibylle - Comme Soie

The two friends are passionate about cooking and always on the lookout for beautiful things.

Sue and Sibylle - Comme Soie

Together, Sue and Sibylle are Comme Soie. They are business partners and at the same time great friends. Both enjoy travelling and while doing so they collect exciting ideas to use in their creative food and styling concepts. As well as being real family people they both also love spending time with friends. They are always open to Apéro drinks and nibbles, they enjoy cosy evenings in with a mug of hot chocolate and a good book, and they don't believe in diets. Instead they believe in savoir vivre, the art of living life well and enjoying it.

We want to inspire other foodies with our pictures.

The Comme Soie duo combine a love of cooking with the aesthetics of photography. Sue and Sibylle take stunning pictures of food, identifying what is unique in each product and capturing it on camera.

How do your culinary creations start?

Hunger, a glance into the fridge, and then making the best of what's in there. The hungrier we are, the more creative the result.

Why did you start a blog?

We worked together taking pictures for Cheesecake Chic and knew that was exactly what we wanted to do – food styling and photography.

How did you come up with the name of your blog?

We like working with all sorts of different materials; silk is a favourite of ours, and the blog developed quite naturally, just like silk.

Which kitchen utensil could you not do without?

Properly sharpened knives and a beautiful wooden chopping board.

Which meals do you like making most?

Sunday brunch or a weekend dinner for friends, because then there is plenty of time. We'll enjoy a glass of wine while preparing together, listening to Lucio Battisti or Paolo Nutini in the background or even singing along – and suddenly life is a little more beautiful!

Which food can you really not bear?

Sibylle: Aniseed.

Sue: Fresh coriander.

What inspires you?

Travel, local and foreign markets, cookery books, Instagram and Pinterest.

Who would you love to share a kitchen with some time?

Sibylle: Gordon Ramsay.

Sue: Jeong Kwan or Alain Passard.

Is there someone you love to cook with?

Our mums, of course!

What is your happy food?

Hot chocolate on a cold winter's day.

What ingredients do you always have in the fridge?

Vegetables fresh from the market, cured ham, olives and a bottle of tasty rosé wine should be in there at all times, because you never know who might pop over for an Apéro.

Do you prefer to cook alone or with others?

With others!

Our passion is to showcase food artistically using our visual language. We want to tell a story in a modern yet rustic way, with a hint of femininity.
